What is glass wool?

Glass wool, also called fiberglass wool, is insulation made from fine glass fibres spun into a soft, springy mat and supplied in rolls, sometimes called glass wool blanket. Millions of tiny air pockets trapped between the fibres slow down heat, so it keeps buildings cooler in summer and holds cooled or heated air inside. The same fibres absorb sound, which is why it is also used for soundproofing.

Glass wool (fiberglass wool) insulation is available in Pakistan from A.Q TRADERS in Karachi. We import our rolls ourselves, so there are no middlemen: you get consistent, high-quality glass wool at competitive rates, from 1 roll to bulk orders.

Benefits of glass wool

  • Keeps buildings cooler: cuts the heat coming through roofs and walls, so rooms, sheds and factories stay more comfortable in summer.
  • Lowers AC and electricity bills: with less heat getting in, your AC and cooling systems work less and use less power.
  • Reduces noise: the fibres absorb sound, making walls, ceilings and partitions quieter.
  • Safer in a fire: glass fibres do not burn, unlike foam insulation.
  • Light and quick to install: easy to carry, cut with a knife and fit, which saves time and labour on site.
  • Affordable: one of the most cost-effective insulation materials in Pakistan, which is why it is the usual choice for factory, warehouse and poultry shed roofs.

Which density do you need?

DensityBest for
12 kg/m³Roof insulation and general heat proofing. Light and the most economical.
24 kg/m³AC ducts, false ceilings and cold storage. Insulates better and absorbs more sound.
32 kg/m³Soundproofing and acoustic panels, and where a firmer, stronger roll is needed.

Plain or FSK aluminium foil glass wool?

We stock both. The right one depends on where it is going.

Glass wool roll with FSK aluminium foil facing

Most popular for roofs

FSK aluminium foil glass wool

Glass wool with FSK aluminium foil on one side. FSK (foil, scrim and kraft) is aluminium foil reinforced with a fibreglass mesh and kraft paper, so it is much tougher than plain foil. It reflects radiant heat from a hot roof, works as a vapour barrier against condensation, and gives a clean finish from below. The best choice under metal roof sheets and for wrapping AC ducts.

Plain yellow glass wool insulation roll without foil

For walls and ceilings

Plain glass wool

Yellow glass wool without facing. Used where it will be covered, such as inside partitions, above false ceilings, between wall layers and behind acoustic panels. It is the lower-cost option when you do not need the foil.

Where glass wool is used

Our glass wool goes to factories, contractors, farms and homes across Pakistan.

Factory and warehouse roofs

Under metal roof sheets in factories, warehouses and pre-engineered buildings, to cut heat from the sun.

Poultry and dairy sheds

Keeps sheds cooler in summer, which helps birds and animals cope with the heat.

Homes and top floors

Under roof sheets and above false ceilings, to make top-floor rooms cooler.

AC and HVAC ducts

FSK foil glass wool wrapped around ducts stops cooled air warming up and stops ducts sweating.

Cold storage

In walls and ceilings of cold rooms, often 2 inch thick, to hold the cold in.

Soundproofing

Inside partitions and acoustic panels for generator rooms, offices, studios and halls.

Glass wool questions

What is the price of glass wool in Pakistan?

It depends on thickness (1 or 2 inch), density, plain or FSK aluminium foil, roll size, quantity and the current import cost. Send us those details on WhatsApp and we’ll give you today’s rate, per roll, per foot or per square foot.

Are glass wool and fiberglass wool the same?

Yes. Both names mean the same material: fine glass fibres spun into a wool-like mat. You may also see it called fibreglass insulation or glasswool.

Should I buy 1 inch or 2 inch glass wool?

Choose 2 inch (50 mm) for hot metal roofs, poultry sheds, cold storage and serious soundproofing. It insulates roughly twice as well as 1 inch. Choose 1 inch (25 mm) for AC ducts, false ceilings, partitions, and roofs where some heat reduction is enough, as it is lighter and lower cost. Under a hot metal roof in Pakistan, 2 inch FSK aluminium foil glass wool gives the best result.

How many rolls of glass wool do I need?

Divide your roof or wall area in square feet by the coverage of one roll: about 130 sq ft for a 4 × 33 ft (10 m) roll, or about 260 sq ft for a 4 × 66 ft (20 m) roll. Then add 5 to 10% for overlaps and cutting. For example, a 2,000 sq ft shed roof needs about 8 rolls of 4 × 66 ft, or about 16 rolls of 4 × 33 ft. Send us your measurements and we will work it out for you.

Can I buy less than a full roll?

Yes. We sell glass wool by the full roll, by the foot or metre, or cut to the size you need. There is no minimum order.

Is glass wool safe to handle?

Glass fibres can itch the skin and irritate the throat. Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when cutting and installing it. Once it is installed and covered, it does not cause problems.

Glass wool vs rock wool: what is the difference?

Glass wool is lighter and more affordable, and is the usual choice for roofs, ducts and ceilings up to 250°C. Rock wool is denser, handles much higher heat, and is better for boilers, hot pipes and fire-rated walls.

Which glass wool is best for roof insulation?

For metal roofs on factories, warehouses, poultry sheds and homes, 2 inch (50 mm) glass wool with FSK aluminium foil gives the best result. The foil reflects heat from the hot roof sheets and the glass wool slows down the heat that gets through. 1 inch works where some heat reduction is enough, and 24 kg/m³ insulates better than 12 kg/m³.

Can glass wool be used for pipe insulation?

Yes, for hot water lines and hot pipes up to 250°C. Wrap the glass wool around the pipe and cover it with FSK foil or aluminium cladding. For AC refrigerant lines and chilled water pipes, use rubber foam insulation instead, because it stops condensation.

Do you deliver glass wool outside Karachi?

Yes. We deliver to every city in Pakistan. Most orders reach Lahore and Islamabad in 2 to 3 days.
