What is silicone rubber?
Silicone rubber is a high-performance synthetic rubber that stays flexible from extreme cold to high heat. It handles temperatures where other rubbers harden, crack or melt, it is safe for food contact, and it is an excellent electrical insulator. What temperature can silicone rubber sheet handle?
It works continuously from −60°C to +230°C. That is much higher than neoprene, nitrile or EPDM, so it suits ovens, heat presses, sealing machines and hot food equipment.
Silicone or EPDM: which should I buy?
Choose silicone for temperatures above about 120°C, for food contact and for extreme cold. Choose EPDM for hot water, steam and outdoor seals, where it is tough and lower in cost. For oil and fuel, choose nitrile (NBR).
Can I use silicone sheet on a heat sealing or heat press machine?
Yes. 1 to 3 mm silicone sheet is widely used as heat sealing pads and heat press pads, because it handles the heat, stays flexible and spreads pressure evenly. We can cut strips and pads to your machine size.
How much does a silicone rubber sheet weigh?
Each 1 mm of thickness weighs about 1.3 kg per m². A full 1 m × 10 m roll of 3 mm sheet weighs about 38 kg, and a roll of 1.5 mm about 19 kg.
